About
A self-taught background in art, aesthetics, repair, and problem-solving informs everything I build.

I’m Arthur Richards, working out of Southern California. I’m drawn to designs that feel calm at first glance and reveal small details the longer you live with them: proportion, a joint that lines up just right, grain that carries around a corner, and beautifully contrasting wood types.

Most of my work lives in the space between function and ritual: humidors, boxes, and small furniture that people use every day but still notice. I like clear communication, realistic constraints, and solving the practical problems that come with real materials and real use.

Process
A simple, clear path from idea to finished piece.

01 · Conversation

We start with a short conversation about what you need: size, use, rough budget, and any reference pieces you like. A quick sketch or example photo is more than enough.

02 · Design & Details

I propose a direction, materials, and timeline. Once we agree, I finalize dimensions and key details before cutting into any stock.

03 · Build & Delivery

I build the piece, send the occasional progress photo if you’d like, and arrange pickup or shipping once everything feels right.

What helps me help you

  • Rough dimensions or the space the piece needs to live in.
  • How you plan to use it (daily, display, storage, etc.).
  • Any photos of work you like—mine or someone else’s.
